Kathryn Buck has been selected for a Fulbright Scholar award for the Fulbright German Studies Seminar 2002, “International Migration and National Identities”, to take place in Berlin, Leipzig and Cologne, June 8-28. The Fulbright programs, intended to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries, are sponsored by German and U.S. Fulbright Commissions.

Buck Honored at ACTFL Annual Meeting (November 1996)

Kathryn Buck, Ph.D., founder and principal of Buck Language & Intercultural Services, was honored at the Annual Meeting of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) in Los Angeles for her contributions to ACTFL’s Oral Proficiency Testing Program.

At a special meeting to honor a number of language training and testing professionals, ACTFL Executive Director C. Edward Scebold recognized the significant contribution “you have made to this program and to the profession as a whole.” He cited in particular Dr. Buck’s work with ACTFL in 1987-88 as Senior Project Director responsible for ACTFL’s nationwide proficiency testing and tester training program, including serving as managing editor of the revised tester training manual.

Audio Cassette Receives 1993 “Best Audio Release” from Publishers Weekly

Crown Publishers’ InTense series of 4-cassette verb review programs in German, French and Spanish received the 1993 Publishers Weekly award for “best audio release”. The manuscript for the German materials was written by the professional staff of Buck Language & Intercultural Services. [Note: Originally marketed under the title InTense German with summary insert cards for extensive language review, in 1996 the material was renamed Living LanguageTM German 2: A Conversational Approach to Verbs and includes a reference booklet with a summary of basic grammar points, verb conjugations of more than 150 verbs, and texts of the dialogs and exercises.]

Buck Language & Intercultural Services To Design & Manage Language Testing Program for International Monetary Organization, Washington, DC (June 1994)

Buck Language & intercultural Services has been chosen to design and conduct a foreign language testing program for a major Washington-based NGO. The program, which will test oral proficiency skills in French, German, Russian, Portuguese and Spanish for as many as 400 employees involved in the organization’s internal language training programs, will be customized to the needs while on mission assignment of administrative assistants, economists, and mission chiefs. The testing program, to be conducted on an annual basis, will also provide fast and detailed feedback to examinees, department heads, instructors, and administrative departments.
